Gulich, AIA, LEED AP, LFA is the Senior Director of Campus Planning, Architecture, and Sustainability and University Architect at Purdue University. Michael is responsible for directing the campus master planning process for the Purdue system’s 26 million square feet of facilities and for providing the vision, organizational strategy, and focus for advancing sustainability efforts.In this podcast, Michael details his views on integrative design and planning within the myriad of complexities inherent in a large campus complex of people, structures and systems at Purdue. He dives into the tensions of a design process and importance of letting it mature while negotiating the uncertainty and the risks associated with doing something novel or new. He reflects on questions related to risk tolerance, managing leadership’s expectations, and how to engender trust in the design process to allow for the necessary space to bring about meaningful outcomes.This podcast is a presentation by the Association of Resilient Campus Design and Innovation (ARCdI).
