Community Annex: Catalyst for Exchange

by Raymond Barclay

Dr. Keith Morton, a renowned community engagement expert and faculty member at the Feinstein Institute for Public Service at Providence College, reflects on the current context for place-based campus engagement. Dr. Morton discusses his experiences organizing students, residents and other stakeholders over his many years as a tireless advocate in the Smith Hill neighborhood of Providence. He reflects on his time at the center and how the campus and local residents created spaces for building deeper relationships and community capacity, leveling power dynamics between the campus and community, and co-constructing hyper-local solutions to combat poverty and economic inequality.
