The division maintains a campus with approximately 200 buildings, 3,087,031 square feet of space, and 3,420 acres of land. The college is committed to building and maintaining high-performance, sustainable buildings that meet our community’s needs while reducing waste, conserving resources, and utilizing efficient on-campus power. The College has made investments in key campus infrastructure elements and, through the recently completed Strategic Plan and Campus Framework Plan, wishes to advance further the replacement of campus infrastructure over the next ten years; however, numerous legacy building systems and older structures still exist that require unique handling, historical tribal knowledge, and advanced staff training to maintain appropriately.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Williams College seeks a collaborative and strategic leader for the Director of Facilities position. Reporting to the Associate Vice President (AVP) for Campus Planning and Operations, the Director for Facilities will oversee the planning, organization, technical, operations, and administrative aspects of the Facilities Department. The Director will provide operational and maintenance management of the campus’ built environment; including operating policies and procedures, personnel and budget management, program maintenance and repair; and oversee services for the buildings, grounds, equipment, and vehicle fleet. This includes the management of the following divisions: Mechanical, Electrical, and Architectural Trades; Grounds, Internal Technology Platforms, Custodial Services, on and off-campus rental property support teams; Heating Plant; and Facilities Administrative staff. The Director is responsible for managing operations and facilities in a way that supports and advances environmental sustainability and ensures that quality service is provided to all customers.

The successful candidate will focus on effective communication between the Facilities Department and its clients. This person will provide experienced leadership for a talented Facilities staff; will work closely with the AVP of Campus Planning and Operations and the Assistant Director for Planning, Design, and Construction on developing policies and procedures and promoting teamwork within the staff; ensuring quality service and smooth coordination between construction and operations.

This position will be required to create and provide presentations to Board of Trustee meetings, Williams College Senior staff and leadership teams, and other campus groups. These groups will include staff, faculty, students, and other stakeholders who need information regarding immediate issues and mitigation plans, upcoming work plans, and other facilities-related events.
